On Monday, May 15th, our Year 11 students participated in the Road Awareness Program, a crucial initiative from the Metropolitan Fire Service. We hope you have a wonderful and safe long weekend. Reminder that Monday is a Public Holiday and Tuesday is a Student Free Day. Engaging in work experience helps students to gain valuable industry specific skills and is very important, as it offers them an insight into the world of work. Participating in work experience is very important for students as it offers them an insight into the world of work. By now every student should have secured a work experience placement. The expectation is that all year 10 students will participate in work experience. Year 10 work experience will be taking place in week 8. For a student to be eligible to continue to study a particular subject the following year they must achieve C+ or above in their exam and term grades. Additionally at Modbury High school exam results are used to determine students’ ability to continue with a given subject in the following year. As well exams allow students to demonstrate their abilities, consolidate their learning and showcase their academic progress. You will find a copy of the roster at the end of this newsletter.Įxams provide students with the opportunity to evaluate their understanding and knowledge of the subject. An exam roster has been provided to the students. Year 11 exams will be taking place in week 8. This feedback as well as the parent feedback will be incorporated in our teaching and learning agreement which we hope to have finalised by the end of term 4. The feedback from students has been collated and will be shared with staff during our next meeting. The final student forum took place on Monday 5 June. Thank you also to all the year 12 teachers who attended the evening and joined the year 12 students to celebrate this very important milestone. Be careful not to cut old wood.I am excited to share with you a recap of the events that unfolded have occurred over the past few weeks at our school. Pruning isn’t usually needed, but you can shape the plant or trim it to maintain the desired size. If you decide to feed the plant, opt for phosphorus-free products because phosphorus can kill the plant. You can fertilize the plant occasionally if you want, but it usually isn’t necessary. Banksia Plant Careīanksia plants are rugged and require little attention. Water banksia flowers regularly for the first year or two, then cut back to an occasional deep watering during hot, dry weather. Banksia isn’t a good choice for moist, humid climates, although tolerance varies depending on the cultivar. If your soil conditions aren’t right, you can grow banksia flowers in containers. Perfect drainage is critical, as banksia flowers are susceptible to root rot, which is usually deadly. Plant banksia on a low mound of soil to promote drainage, then surround the plant with gravel mulch. If your soil is clay-based, dig in generous amounts of finely chopped bark or compost to improve soil texture. Growing banksia is easy as long as you provide well-drained soil, full sunlight, and excellent air circulation. The flowers are highly attractive to birds and beneficial insects. The tiny blooms, arranged in round, oval, or cylindrical clusters, come in a range of colors such as yellowish green, brown, orange, pale yellow, cream, and red. This diverse plant family contains a variety of forms that include 6 to 12 foot (2-4 m.) shrubs and full-size trees that attain heights of 30 to 60 feet (9-18 m.).
